It was a wonderful reunion of friendships this past Monday when we welcomed and hosted our friends from Shanghai YMCA after a hiatus of eight years!
There was much to catch up on, and we took the opportunity to give our honoured guests not only a glimpse into the heart and spirit of both Metropolitan YMCA and M.Y World Preschool but also to update on our latest developments and milestones. The team from M.Y World Preschool also shared about the educational landscape here in Singapore, and we gave our guests a hands-on and personal tour of not one – but two of our Preschool centres.
The first destination was M.Y World @ Leng Kee, where our guests got to meet and interact with the children to understand how M.Y World brings innovative quality infant and child care services to our communities. They also took in the sights of M.Y World’s sustainability efforts in using recycled materials to expand our children’s learning experience. The children impressed everyone with specially crafted educational games and even musical instruments – a strong testament to their creativity and imagination! To top things off, our guests got to take home potted ‘plants’ specially handcrafted by the children.
The focus then shifted to M.Y World’s green and sustainability journey over at M.Y World @ Dawson as they viewed the Vertical Water Farming System where they learnt how certain ingredients in their specially prepared lunch were grown. It was followed by a walk through the facilities from Dawson’s infant care facility to their innovative learning spaces, including their cultural heritage spaces where they joined in to have some fun.
A trip to MYMCA’s very own hydroponics urban farm rounded off the day, where our guests saw how our organic and pesticide-free crops are grown in our own backyard, and the process of setting up a hydroponics urban farm in Singapore. They also had a chance to harvest the vegetables that were growing at the farm.
MYMCA’s President Mr Charis Lim and M.Y World Preschool’s President Dr Samuel Yeak welcomed the guests and also presented gifts to our guests.
We had the chance to connect with our guests further at the farewell dinner, hosted by MYMCA’s President Mr Charis Lim and M.Y World Preschool’s President Dr Samuel Yeak. The time-honoured gift exchange between the two Ys rounded off the evening’s event.
Thank you, Shanghai YMCA, for reconnecting with us, and learning more about the work we do, and how we are a blessing to others, and Singapore!
